Curt called the NICU for an update and found out that they took Evan off of C-Pap at 2:30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy cats! We are so excited. He's on a nasal canula as he needs just a tiny wiff of oxygen still. They said that if he has ANY heart decels or apnea, they'll put him back on. No chest retraction (where preemies suck in their chest and can't get a good breath) at all so far. They told me when Alec went off, that if he made it through the night, he'd likely do just fine, so I figure the same for Ev......COME ON BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No big update for Alec. They said that they put him in a cute outfit and snuggled him up. I love them. They're so damn good with these babies!!!
Alec still needs his TPN (IV nourishment). He is getting feedings every three hours, but all of his levels still indicate he needs that little bit more in the TPN. They many not need to keep Evan on the TPN too much longer, as he is more plump than Alec. We found out Alec had IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction), so he'll need the TPN a bit longer than his calorie hog of a brother. Our nurse explained that it likely was a placental issue, where Evan got the nutrients first, or hogged them from his brother in some way. I'll ask the neonatologist for more info about how it specifically affected OUR boys. Here's a link to some reading about IUGR if interested. http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/peds_hrpregnant/iugr.cfm
But for tonight...good news! Yay Evan! We'll be going up to the hospital tomorrow morning and will update more then!
